Discovering Ivan Dubovik

I recently discovered Ivan Dubovik, an illustrator who posts his amazing work here on bechance.
I was instantly drawn to Ivan’s work because he is very good at creating contrast in his illustrations. The first thing that caught my eye when looking at his art is the juxtaposition he creates with size and color.

Speaking of color, Ivan’s color choices are brilliant! He creates light and reflection in his illustrations through his use of color. Likewise, he also creates balance this way. Ivan creates highlights that look amazing when placed against a darker background. By using this technique, his art feels very balanced.

Ivan is also very outstanding at element placement. Proximity is important in art, and he executes this by paying special attention to size. If you notice there is one big element (the plate that is sitting on the placemat), a few medium elements (utensils, the egg), and lots of small elements (the rest of the vegetables). The practice of using one big, a couple medium, and more small is a common practice used by artists to help create a focal point.
All around, I am very impressed with Ivan Dubovik’s work and am a fan and a follower. Be sure to check out his Behance page. Ivan created some fun animations as well as posted his daily illustrations from 2020 that are worth checking out.
